Information on Bouches-du-Rhône and Property Available for Sale through Leapfrog Properties

Bouches-du-Rhône

Bouches du Rhone is a maritime department in the south of France in the Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region. It is bounded in the north by Vaucluse, by Var in the East, by Gard in the west, and by the Mediterranean in the south, along which its seaboard stretches for about 120 miles. The department contains around 1,798,000 inhabitants.

The climate is Mediterranean which makes it dry and arid and very pleasant most of the time, with the chief drawback being the mistral- the icy north-west wind blowing from the central plateau of France. The proportion of arable land is small, though the quantity has been considerably increased by artificial irrigation and by the draining of marshland.

The capital of the department is Marseille which is the France’s second most populated city and the country’s largest port. Marseille has a cosmopolitan mix and the number of tourists is fairly low and very pleasant lunches and dinners can be had at its fish restaurants at the harbour where you can view a sea of private yachts - it is also the place to come and sample bouillabaisse.

In Bouches du Rhone you can also find the Camargue, which represents 346,000 acres of wetland and is famous for its wildlife- home to black bulls and white horses and the local gardiens here to keep the traditions of the community alive. Just as famous is the beautiful young and stylish city of Aix-en-Provence where Paul Cezanne used to capture his artistic world on canvas. Aix is dotted with plenty of cafes and restaurants found alongside its picturesque fountains and squares that characterise the city. Source: marseille.fr
