Haut-Rhin is located in the northeast France in the Alsace region bordering the departments of Bas-Rhin, Vosges and the Territoire de Belfort and also Germany and Switzerland.
Colmar is the capital of the department and is one of the best preserved towns in Alsace with an eventful history. Half-timbered buildings with coloured facades are everywhere in Colmar; the oldest property is thought to be the one of Adolph in the centre of the town.
The district of the Little Venise which is also enjoyable where there is the Musee d’Unterlinden containing a series of early Alsatian 16th century panel paintings. This historic town is located in the heart of the wine region to the west of the city are the Vosges mountains making for beautiful views.
Mulhouse is also an important city in the department which was severely bombed during WWII and now houses some quiet interesting museums about railway locomotives, textiles and cars.
