Located in the north of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region in the south east of France it is a sparsely populated department of France owing to its mountainous surroundings and lack of industry or for that matter agricultural prominence. During the summer the countryside is filled with the tranquillity of grazing goats and sheep all over the mountainous pastures that become visible once the snow has melted and during the winter becomes a popular residence for skiers taking advantage of a few of its ski resorts such as Devoluy.
