Loir-et-Cher is a department in north-central France and is part of the current region of Centre (Loire valley) and is surrounded by the departments of Eure-et-Loir, Loiret, Cher, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, and Sarthe.

Around the city there is the Foret de Blois in which nestle picturesque medieval villages and just outside of Blois there are also the Forests of Russy and Boulogne hiding many spectacular chateaux which most of the time are open to the public.
