Information on Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Property Available for Sale through Leapfrog Properties
Nord-Pas-de-Calais
Located in the most northern tip of France this is a heavily industrialised region which used to rely upon its coal mines, steel and other heavy industry which went into decline much like industry here is doing now. However it is very accessible from northern Europe, the rest of France and the UK with its cross-channel ferries, channel tunnel and TGV links. There are three main ports- Dunkerque, Calais and Boulogne, of which the latter is the most attractive. In Boulogne there are plenty of good fish restaurants and if you venture into the elevated ville haute you are enclosed within its attractive medieval quarter. There are also some wild and impressive, sandy beaches along the coast south of Boulogne dotted with seaside resorts.
Further inland south-east of Boulogne, through sweeping countryside of woodland and river valleys you reach Arras which is noticeably one of the prettiest towns of Northern France renowned for its Tapestries and lined with restored 17th and 18th century mansions. Lille, just north of here is easily the largest city in the region and is very accessible in all directions. It has a beautifully restored old quarter with narrow winding streets and impressive architecture, while also striving for modernism shown by its metro system and its arts scene and museums symbolise its cultural edge. Property prices in Nord-pas-de-Calais are reasonable with some cheaper character property available below the national average price.
