Banyuls-sur-Mer is a town in the department of Pyrénées-Orientales in the region of Languedoc-Roussillon. Banyuls is 45 minutes drive from Perpignan and 1 hour drive from Barcelona. Banyuls Sur Mer is a typical French seaside town but with a Catalan flavour. It’s only a few kms from the Spanish border and the influences of both countries can be found in the food and in everyday life. This is also the homeland of the sculptor Maillol.
Things to see: Cap Rédéris, with its amazing views of sea and mountains; the museum and tomb of Aristide Maillol in the sculptor’s former workshop; aquarium and sea observatory; wine cellars of the famous sweet wine of Banyuls.
