Briancon is located in the Hautes-Alpes department and is within the Serre Chevalier ski domain of 250km of slopes, next to the Parc National des Ecrins. It is a fortified village with much of its stone buildings dating back to the 18th century including its conspicuous parish church. It is the lowest of the ski resorts at 1350m but is also the second highest city in Europe and has a permanent population of around 11,000 people which triples during the winter ski season. As well as its obvious winter ski activities it is also very popular during the summer and is usually the start or finish of the Tour de France cycling competition.

Access is easy with a mainline train station at Briancon but also Turin and Grenoble airport s1h30mins drive away.
