This is an area that is actually in the south-west of the Dordogne department and is also often referred to by its historic name of Perigord. Dordogne is a hugely rich area of countryside, food, wine and culture (Perigeux has some of the largest collections of ancient Roman ruins outside of Rome). It is one of the oldest inhabited areas of France and has a wonderful variety of architecture to prove it from its many castles and chateaux to fortified medieval towns perched on hilltops.

Perigeux is, however, a very popular area with the British which has pushed up property prices quite substantially especially with cheap flights to Bergerac; a nearby town with charming medieval houses in the old quarter. The positive side to its popularity is that property in Dordogne has great rental potential; either for short term lets during the summer or long term ones to include the winter. This is an expensive place to live in the countryside so you won’t find bargain property for sale in Dordogne but is still an excellent place for your second or permanent home.
