Port-Vendres is a commune of the Pyrénées-Orientales department, in Languedoc Roussillon region. A typical Mediterranean fishing port, situated near the Spanish border on the “Cote Vermeille” in south west France. Port Vendres is renowned for its numerous fish and sea food restaurants. You can watch the fishing boats arriving with their daily catch. It is also a major marina in the region.

It is a town built around a natural harbour on the Cote Vermaille and lies next to Collioure and Banyuls sur Mer near Perpignan. Port Vendres is open all year round and is both a commercial port and fishing and yachting harbour. The surroundings are more rugged with smaller beaches than you find say on the Cote d’Azur however it offers a more natural, less opulent charm than some of its more easterly neighbours. Port Vendres is surrounded by vineyards and has a deep Catalan history and culture which can be seen in its architecture, food and summer festivals such as the “Fete de Mailly”. There are many cafes and restaurants overlooking the harbour and you can find many opportunities for aquatic sports here including windsurfing and fishing while its wild and varied countryside offer fantastic places to explore. The nearest airports are Perpignan and Gerona and a railway station ensures that it is always easy to get to.
