Risoul is a ski resort located in the Hautes-Alpes department between Briancon and Gap. Together with neighbouring resort Vars, they form the “Foret Blanche” ski domain nestled between the Queyras and Ecrins national parks which has 180km of slopes and reach up to 2,750m in altitude. Because of the high altitude and decent amount of ski runs Foret Blanche offers some great skiing that can rival the larger and better known ski domains. There are slopes to suit all levels from beginner to expert skier: 10 black runs, 36 red runs, 41 blue runs and 19 green runs.

Both Montgenevre and Serre Chevalier ski resorts are also quickly accessed by car or bus. Access is relatively easy with both Turin and Grenoble airports about 1h30mins away by car and talks are underway to extend the TGV line to Briancon which will further enhance its accessibility and therefore desirability. As one of the most southerly of the French ski resorts it benefits from no less than 300 days a year of sunshine and the Cote d’Azur is just a few hours drive away.

Risoul has a good selection of shops, restaurants, nightclubs, bars and a cinema in its compact and village centre which also contains an ice-rink and a ski school. The price of everything from ski passes to food and drink is considerably less expensive than many neighbouring resorts and so offers excellent value for money.

Property prices in the area are also excellent value and with the budget airlines now flying to Grenoble should see growing interest over the coming years which are likely to increase prices in line with the bigger ski resorts. Currently you can pick up a 1 bed apartment for around 160,000 Euros.
