Information on Calvados and Property Available for Rent through Leapfrog Properties

Calvados

Calvados forms part of the region of Basse-Normandie in Normandy, north of France and is surrounded by the departments of Seine-Maritime, Eure, Orne, and Manche. On the north is the Baie de Seine, part of the English Channel, and on the east the Seine River forms the boundary with Seine-Maritime.
Calvados was created during the French revolution in 1790 and contains just 634,000 inhabitants. It is of course famous for its historical D-Day landings that took place on the beaches of Baie de Seine on June 6, 1944.

The most elegant and stylish town in Calvados is Deauville which is famous for its cafes and upmarket restaurants but moreover for its casinos: it is one of the formerly elegant 19th-century casino resorts of the coast. Nearby sits Honfleur which is one of the most picturesque ports in France and as such is a big draw for tourists from across Europ Caen was largely destroyed in the war but there are quaint old narrow streets to wander down and impressive castle ramparts to view. The orchards stretch for miles producing the distilled calvados, apple brandy that Calvados is famous for and agriculture still dominates the economy of Calvados with products such as butter, cheese, cider, crops etc.
