Alpes-de-Haute-Provence
Digne is the capital of this department situated in the centre of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region (south east France) which is famous for its preserved fruits and confections. It is a fairly arid and dry mountainous region depending mainly on tourism, dairy farming and fruit orchards for its existence. Benefiting from cooler temperatures than its coastal neighbours it is also far more tranquil and is actually very under populated in the mountainous areas with the bulk of the department’s population centred around the towns of Manosque and Dignes-les-Bains.
Dignes is made up of a labyrinth of twisting, winding, medieval style roads with various restored medieval structures giving the town undeniable character. A ski resort at Pra Loup is an additional benefit in the North-east of the department.
