Hérault

The department Herault is located in the region of Languedoc-Roussillon, in the south west France. It is surrounded by the departments of Aude, Tarn, Aveyron, Gard, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Herault covers around 6,100 km2, with a population of about 860,000 inhabitants and was created in 1790, during the French revolution.

Climatically, the Hérault is arid and dry in the south near the coast but inside it’s more of a temperate Mediterranean climate but can get quite windy. The department has a diverse geography with the Cevennes Mountains in the north, agricultural land in the middle and then beaches in the south. The Cevennes have a picturesque landscape with lakes, gorges, rivers, and mountains to allow a wonderful atmosphere and a fantastic place for outdoor activities of all kinds.

Montpellier is the capital of the department and is an atmospheric, well-known lively student city with plenty of bars and very tasteful architecture mixing the classical with the stylish and modern buildings. Montpellier is located only 8 miles from the sea and the centre is nearly all pedestrianised. It is the centre for commercial and manufacturing industries but also of course tourism plays an important part: the Mediterranean beaches are a major attraction in France.

The department has 60 miles of coastline where others cities are dominant. For instance, Sete is one of the most important fishing ports in the Mediterranean coast and the Cap d’Agde is one of the largest purpose built tourist resorts. The other largest town after Montpellier is Bezier which represents the centre of the largest wine making area in France.

Viviendas en alquiler en - Hérault

The average price of a 2 bedroom apartment property for sale in Herault is between 185k and 205k Euros while a 4 bedroom house will cost between 350k and 390k Euros. Property prices here are above the national average for their categories as you would expect on the south coast of France but you will find that these regions are always popular and are still a good investment due to its great location on the Mediterranean coast and could well see a surge in property prices as people search outside of the Cote d’Azur holiday hotspots.
