Alsace
Located in the north-western tip of France, this small but beautiful region is nestled between the Vosges Mountains to the west and the River Rhine to the east forming its border with Germany. Its countryside is made up of dense woodland, fertile farmland, beautiful vineyards and pretty half-timbered houses many of which are found at the foothills of the Vosges Mountains.
During the summer the many wine festivals will keep you entertained and to help you burn off those calories a stroll around the Massif de Vosges with its scenic mountains and lakes is not far away. North of the capital, Strasbourg, lie the towns of Saverne and Wissembourg which offer access to impressive ruins in the Northern Vosges whilst to the south along the Route du Vin you can find many picturesque medieval villages worth visiting like Colmar for instance.
The culture here is as distinctive as any in France due to its proximity to Germany and incursions by them; the Germanic influence has left its mark in Alsace affecting the architecture, food and dialect. However, they are very proud of their nationality and even more so of being Alsatians which can be seen by their efforts to keep their own dialect alive along with their first language - French.

Property for Sale in Alsace
The average price of a 2 bedroom apartment property in the Alsace region is between 140k Euros and 160k Euros while the price of a 4 bedroom house is between 250k Euros and 290k Euros. Property for sale in Alsace can be fairly expensive in the cities due to the constant influx of European workers especially in Strasbourg and derelict houses to renovate are hard to find, however, rental and buying demand is high giving Strasbourg good investment potential. Houses here are often painted and tend to be made of stone and half-timbered with steep roofs.
Along the Route du Vin amongst the patchwork of vineyards in the Rhine valley is Colmar which although an industrial city maintains its charm with its quaint half-timbered houses and pretty town centre. South of Colmar, next to Switzerland is the industrial city of Mulhouse- a prosperous city with a number of museums but not the ideal place for a second or permanent home unless you work in Switzerland. Meanwhile Strasbourg is home to many foreign companies and international banks and fast becoming the European economic and administrative centre whilst also offering good housing and high standard of life. Low unemployment, good transport links and a wide variety of industry make Alsace a sought after area for French and foreigners alike.
