Centre (Loire Valley)
This region is better known as the Loire valley, Central Loire or the Heart of France and hosts France’s longest river- the Loire. It has always been a very prosperous region thanks to its fertile soil and actually has a temperate climate; milder than its northern location may suggest. If you are interested in Medieval and Renaissance history and enjoy looking at chateaux, hunting lodges and cathedrals then this is your stop. The region has an incredibly rich and fertile landscape with orchards, thick woodland and much arable land and is a great place to walk or cycle around especially along the banks of the River Loire.
Many commuters to Paris live here due to its good transport links to the city but the region also possesses industry as running costs here are far less than those in Paris. Agriculture is still important and there are many vineyards producing delicious white wines while goat’s cheese here is said to be the best in France. The northern city of Orleans is mainly used by Parisian commuters, while Tours with a reputation as a bourgeois city offers more in the way of a picturesque setting with its half-timbered houses, 18th century avenues, public gardens, and numerous cafes. Chinon is also worth visting having some of the best vineyards in The Loire while the town of Bourges is known for its 12th century Gothic cathedral, theatre, music and festivals.

Prices of property in Tours and Chinon have risen by 20%-25% over the last few years but due to its climate, countryside and proximity to Paris they are likely to continue rising. The average price of a 2 bedroom apartment property in the Centre region is between 115k Euros and 155k Euros while the price of a 4 bedroom house is between 200k Euros and 240k Euros.
