Haute-Saône
Haute-Saone is located in the region of Franche-Comte and is the northernmost department in the region bordering departments of Côte-d'Or, Doubs, Jura, Haute-Marne, Vosges and Territoire de Belfort.
Haute-Saone is mainly rural- almost overwhelmed by orchards, meadows, wooded hills and forests and takes its name after the Saone River which flows through this part of the region, providing more than 100kms of navigable waterway.
The capital of the department is Vesoul- a town with many enjoyable quarters, museums of art and archaeology with the Chateau de La Motte in the centre of the medieval town. From the city are great views across the Vosges Mountains.
Another interesting town is Port sur Saone which is a popular water sports and boating centre and Luxeil-les-Bains is a pleasant spa town.
Another city which worth looking at is Roncham- a former miner’s town with an impressive chapel is said to be one of the masterpieces of the 20th century design.
