Situated in the north-west of Aquitaine in the Gironde department, Bordeaux is famous for its centuries old wine production. It is a wealthy city and has been since Roman times and is currently undergoing some urban regeneration. The finest properties are within the 18th century city centre made of limestone with iron balconies but outside of this it becomes like many urban cities. Property for sale in Bordeaux is quite expensive so foreign buyers looking for a good value second home are better off heading to the surrounding countryside.

A more holiday orientated area nearby with beautiful sandy beaches is Cap Ferret and Arcachon which, although quite expensive again, is renowned as being a rather exclusive resort. It is a mainly French driven market and the rental during the summer is good as it is so popular with the French who also come for its local cuisine and mild climate.
