Located in the Haute-Savoie region between Geneva and Mont Blanc, Flaine at an altitude of 1600 mtrs is the highest resort at the heart of The Grand Massif ski area with an impressive 265 km of ski slopes. Flaine sits in a well protected bowl with a very good snow record, the highest lift, the ‘Grandes Platieres’ cable car takes skiers to an altitude of 2 480 m, Mont Blanc looks like it is within touching distance from this vantage point. Access to Geneva airport is quick and easy, at only 70 kms it takes roughly 90 minutes by car, if you don’t drive there are several coach services operating to and from the airport during the season. Flaine is a convenient family friendly resort with a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. There are many activities in Flaine other than skiing such as car and quad racing tracks on ice, which are lots of fun. The architecture of Flaine is famous as it is the only ski resort in France listed as a historic monument. Constructed in the sixties by Eric Boissonnas & Marcel Breuer in the Bauhaus style of modern architecture, Flaine is free of traffic with a huge car park at the entrance to the resort. It manages to blend in to its surroundings at the foot of the ski slopes and many large outdoor sculptures by the likes of Picasso help to create a unique atmosphere.
