Positioned at the base of Mont Blanc in the Haute-Savoie department with easy access to Switzerland and Italy, Chamonix attracts a cosmopolitan tourist set who come here for some of Europe’s best and most challenging skiing. Originally built as a summertime mountaineering centre, Chamonix offers something for both the summer and winter - the main drawback being that skiers have to rely on shuttle buses and cars to reach the ski slopes.
