Situated in the northern part of the Paris-Ile de France region it forms part of the suburbs of Paris famous for being the residence of the Famous Van Gogh where he painted some of his finest pieces. There are a few very interesting suburbs in the Val d’Oise department of which one is the Pontoise; housing two museums fantastic for art lovers and a rather flamboyant cathedral. Auvers sur Oise used to be Van Gogh’s residence where there is a virtual reality tour of the artist’s world and many beautiful parks and gardens can be found at the hill perched suburb of Montmorency which used to be home to many wealthy aristocrats during the Middle Ages. In the north-east of the department lies the Chateau de Ecouen which is now a renaissance museum and houses many tapestries and renaissance furniture. Other medieval sites are also to be found in this department including the Abbaye Notre dame.

This department in northern France is ideally located in for quick access to England and the rest of northern Europe by sea, train or air and it is a short trip to the centre of Paris to eat out or spend time shopping. Property will also obviously be less expensive in the suburbs and you are more likely to find a good sized house with Garden space than the city centre.
