Located in the Moselle department, like Strasbourg, Metz, is very close to the German border and has changed hands a number of times retaining influences from both. It is quieter than Strasbourg as it is not such a tourist hotspot but there are still plenty of marvellous buildings from the Roman baths and amphitheatre to its grand renaissance buildings and museums housing a military collection and fine arts.

Prices of property for sale in Metz have increased substantially over the last few years but are still cheaper than Strasbourg. This, coupled with an expensive and stable property rental market fuelled by demand from Luxemburgers, points towards Metz being a good area in which to invest in property. Rentals are also good in the surrounding villages where cheaper properties can be found and regular tourists especially in July and August are in good supply.
